Living in the Daystar Community
About Daystar
DayStar is an intentional cohousing community in the heart of vibrant, Midtown Tallahassee. Started by four families, it has grown to 13 homes with close connections to the wider neighborhood. Eight families, known as DayStar, own their home and the land under their home, with surrounding land owned and maintained in common. Homes are clustered together, and families park their vehicles in a shared parking area on one end of the
property. Families in the other five homes across the street, DayStar II, own their own homes on lots adjacent to each other with a shared alley drive.
Community is at the heart of DayStar. We enjoy monthly potlucks, an annual progressive dinner and impromptu get togethers on welcoming front porches. We share a vegetable garden area, common parking area, and two grassy commons. A table and benches underneath a Longleaf pine tree often host neighbors catching up with the latest news. In cooler weather, the fire pit area finds us sharing time together.
DayStar Community Decision Making
Our community is responsible for self-governance through our association, which aims for consensus in making decisions and relies on the input and participation of all community members to complete tasks. DayStar has a Board of Directors and collects annual dues from our homeowners to help maintain the community. DayStar does not have a shared economy or set of beliefs. We are committed to the modest practical demands of intentional community, grateful that many hands make light work. While we do, indeed, value community we greatly appreciate and respect the varying opinions and viewpoints that we each bring to the table and how that enhances our sense of community.
Community Work
As with all properties, it takes work to maintain DayStar. Homeowners’ dues pay for routine yardwork in the common area. DayStar residents participate in “work days” as needed throughout the year to tackle small community projects; address needed maintenance in our parking lot, stormwater pond, or other common areas; and to help clean up after storms. Several workdays per year (usually a few hours) are another great way to spend time with our neighbors. Some of the bigger landscape decisions throughout our property, such as the planting and maintenance of trees, are made by the community as a whole.
Location
Located in the heart of Midtown and near Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, DayStar is a short, one block stroll to Whole Foods, many popular restaurants, Ninth and Terrace Park, Winthrop Park, and McCord Park, and Theatre Tallahassee.

Stephanie helped us with the purchase of our first home. She was always there from the day 1 that we were into the idea of buying a home. And finally, we turned it into a reality with the patience and help of Stephanie! She not only knows the market and gives you expert advice but also closely and wholeheartedly listens to you. She is the definition of "professionalism", always on time, responsive, very informative, and patient. When we purchased our home, she was happy as much as we were! 🙂 I would recommend anybody Stephanie when buying or selling.”
Her warm and open personality wins everyone over quickly. She quickly becomes a friend, but maintains transactional control and objectivity. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to buy or sell in the Tallahassee area. But trust me, you’d better be ready to move when she lists the house!!!! I nicknamed her Superwoman. She juggles her philanthropy, career, family, church, and beloved pups with a joyous attitude and permanent smile. Stephanie gives her utmost to all she does. What more could you want in an agent?? "
My husband and I have known Stephanie for several years and we watched her help friends and family sell or buy a home. We never thought it would be our turn, but Stephanie did. She knew we'd be homeowners when the time was right. She turned our dream of owning a home into a reality.
Stephanie Wise is the most hardworking woman out there and she loves what she does. She may start out as your realtor, but in the end, you'll have a lifelong friend.
Thank you, Stephanie! You are a SUPER woman!!!"
